Test Specimens

Centro-symmetric test fixture for hard composite laminates does not require alignment of the sample along a particular axis, as is the case with 3 point bending. An original paper describing this fixture and its use to obtain superposition master curves on graphite epoxy laminates is available from us.

Platens for testing of cylindrical elastomer samples in tension or compression. Standard platens can accommodate samples up to 19 mm in diameter. Other sizes are available. In compression, the sample need not be bonded to the platens.

Large platens for low density foam testing or other very soft materials. Samples up to 50 mm in diameter can be accommodated.

True simple shear fixture. A jig (not shown) is available for the accurate mounting and adhesive bonding of a sample to the shear fixture. This fixture is exceptionally useful for true simple shear testing of elastomers.

Three Point bending fixture for plastics and laminates. The span length is 1.625 inches (41.3 mm) and sample widths up to 12.5 mm can be used.

Grips for circular tension-compression samples (such as cylindrical dog bone shapes) cover a range from 1 mm to 10 mm diameter. Sample gage lengths up to 60 mm can be accommodated.

Not shown is a fixture for testing rectangular tensile strips.

Custom grips are also available.
